What is the appropriate age range for MoneyU?

We’ve designed the course to be most interesting and relevant for young adults in the transition from living at home to making real world decisions.  Generally speaking, the course is aimed at young adults ages 17 – 25, when they start making financial decisions and mistakes.

Which States’ curricular standards in Personal Finance does MoneyU map to?

Many States haven’t yet developed any curriculum standards for Personal Finance, and some States have adopted other standards, like Jump$tart. Currently, MoneyU maps to the following:

  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • New York
  • New Jersey
  • North Carolina
  • Pennsylvania
  • Texas
  • Wisconsin
  • Jump$tart
  • McRel (a consortium of States, which include Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota)
  • We’re adding more all the time.

How long does it take to complete the course?

MoneyU is designed for the learner’s convenience; most of the content is presented in chunks usually requiring less than 15 minutes each. The learners in our beta tests completed the content, on average, in under 8 hours total (seat time, or time-on-task), but there’s a wide variation. Factors that can affect your time to completion are:

  • How often you access the course, and how often you’re interrupted while you’re in the course
  • How much time you spend in the supporting references, like the Help/Reference or the resource links
  • How much time you experiment with the calculators and other tools (they’re fun, and very eye-opening), and
  • Your level of knowledge before you begin, of course.
(But we bet even financial experts will learn a thing or two!)

What computer system requirements are necessary to run MoneyU?

For individuals accessing the login site from home or a library computer, you’ll need:

  • A PC with Internet Explorer or Firefox browser. (MoneyU for Mac is coming soon)
  • High-speed internet access, such as Cable or DSL. (Dial-up doesn’t cut it, unfortunately)
  • Latest version of Flash (or at least Flash 7.0)

For High Schools and other groups wanting a synchronous, classroom experience on a shared T-1:

  • Every computer needs to meet the above requirements
  • The T-1 needs to not be spread too thin among all the users
  • Your organization’s firewalls need to allow excursions to the web and pop-ups.

Contact us and we can help you determine if your site can support the program.

Do you offer content or technical support for teachers or learners?

For additional cost (we can provide you a quote after we understand your needs), we can offer levels of telephone support for your teachers, and email support to your learners.

For all subscribers, at no additional cost, learners can email our team from any moment in the course, to ask us questions and provide us feedback.
